Les Misérables UK PosterTom Hooper’s Les Misérables is very much one of the most anticipated films of the year, and coming out on Christmas Day in the US, it will be one of the last we’ll see this year.

We’ve already seen more than enough to strengthen its position as an awards contender in the coming months – not least because every note sung has been sung live on set, rather than recorded in a studio – and after catching two beautiful new TV spots earlier this week, an stunning full-length trailer has officially debuted online.

“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”

Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, and Amanda Seyfried lead a fantastic cast, with a terrific supporting cast headed up by Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Isabelle Allen.

Hooper is directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical.

Les Misérables will be released on Christmas Day in the US, before coming to the UK in the New Year on 11th January. I can’t wait. This is going to be nothing short of amazing.
