Steven Spielberg has officially signed on to direct Robopocalypse, Deadline have confirmed.

Based on the forthcoming novel of the same name by Daniel H. Wilson (whose latest post on his personal blog is simply ‘Uh, hmm. Sort of at a loss for words here. Somebody pinch me?’), and adapted for screen by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield), Robopocalypse is about the human race’s attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising.

Spielberg is currently putting the finishing touches to his big screen rendition of War Horse, his adaptation of the First World War story by Michael Morpurgo, currently doing excellent business on the London stage.

Filming is expected to commence in early 2012, once Spielberg has completed War Horse. Touchstone plan to release the film sometime in 2013.
