With the Marvel shaped hole that has appeared since Avengers: Endgame was released a certain set of film fans are now looking to the next instalment of the Star Wars saga to rebuild the excitement in the cinematic universe. So it’s only fitting that Lucasfilm has released a whole bunch of behind the scenes images from the upcoming ‘Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker’ movie.

The images, which come via an exclusive preview to Vanity Fair, consist of two front covers featuring Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren and Daisy Ridley’s Rey.

The article takes the reader behind the scenes with director J.J. Abrams and the cast to discuss the last episode in the Skywalker saga. The story will follow the exploits of Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren and the rest of the gang fighting out there in that galaxy far, far away. It will complete the Skywalker Saga which began with Episode IV A New Hope in 1977. It includes a number of new faces and some old friends.

Sources close to the movie say that ‘Skywalker’ will bring to a climax the millennia-long conflict between the Jedi Order and its dark shadow, the Sith.

In order to tell the new story, Abrams felt that he needed Princess Leia to convey it, but with the monumentally sad passing of Carrie Fisher, Abram’s had to find another way. A digital Leia was never going to cut it and recasting was out of the question. However, Abrams being the genius that he is, remembered the cut material from ‘The Force Awakens’ and how this would be the perfect solution to bring Carrie back to finish the story.

It’s hard to even talk about it without sounding like I’m being some kind of cosmic spiritual goofball,” Abrams says, “but it felt like we suddenly had found the impossible answer to the impossible question.”

It was a bizarre kind of left side/right side of the brain sort of Venn diagram thing, of figuring out how to create the puzzle based on the pieces we had.
