Filmmaker, Jon Favreau has taken to social media to announce the title and plot details for his forthcoming Star Wars series which is to air exclusively on Disney’s streaming channel.

Captioning his post on Instagram #starwars #TheMandalorian – Which will be the title of the series – the picture alongside it gave the plot outline.

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic”

Favreau will write, direct and executive produce the series for the Disney streaming service which launches late 2019. Disney are hoping the new service will rival the likes of Netflix.

At the time of the announcement of Favreau taking the reign’s, it caused a bit of a backlash on social media. Some stated that it’s just another straight white-male being hired to oversee the project dismissing the Female/POC/LGBT movement. However, who knows where Favreau will take the project.

Favreau has already worked on Star Wars movies, he will be seen in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars story and had previously appeared in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. He is currently working for Disney on the Lion King remake which will star Donald Glover as future king Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Simba’s friend-turned-love interest Nala, and James Earl Jones as Simba’s wise and loving father, Mufasa. The remake is due for release July 2019.
