It has been months since the announcement was made that Episode VIII of the Star Wars saga would be called The Last Jedi. The internet has only just recovered from the meltdown this caused the main avenues of interest crowded with those who believe The Last Jedi it names is Luke, or Rey, or whether it is both. It’s a symbol of how much attention this new era of Star Wars demands, and how much hay its fans put into the seemingly innocuous. It’s a fine, if frustrating time to be following the continuing saga.

In its 40th year, with the regular Celebration convention happening in Florida right now, Star Wars is bigger than ever. The Last Jedi is out in December this year and follows a superlative franchise re-launch with J. J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens. Lucasfilm are also four months out from their extremely successful initial Star Wars Story with Rogue One. Expectations are sky high for Rian Johnson who wrote and directed the new film, which has, finally, a trailer to its name today.

Rey Star Wars Episode VIII
Daisy Ridley returns as Rey (whose parentage has been the subject of oceans of speculation), along with John Boyega as Finn and Oscar Issac as Poe Dameron. The three newcomers are joined by returning villains Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), General Hux (Domnhall Gleeson) and the equally speculated upon Snoke (Andy Serkis). Newcomers to the franchise include Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran and Benicio Del Toro. Johnson wrote and directed the film, which is perhaps the best move Lucasfilm could have made.

Following The Force Awakens there are many questions to answer. Our personal favourite is exactly how ‘weird’, as this new film is thought to be, The Last Jedi actually is. It’s certainly exciting to be back in the familiar galaxy, with a whole host of new and interesting elements evident in this trailer.

Enough yakfacing… here it is.
