Based on what we saw in the early trailers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Forest Whitaker was originally going to have a much larger role in the movie as Rebel extremist Saw Gerrera. However, while it appears as if all but one of his scenes were replaced during extensive reshoots, we know now that we’ll see more of the character in Star Wars Rebels!
As you can see below, a promo poster has been spotted showing a younger (and healthier) version of Saw in the Disney XD animated series, and this is a decision which makes a lot of sense. After all, the character debuted in The Clone Wars and there’s a lot of story to tell between where he was at the end of that conflict to when we met him again in Rogue One.
Of course, you now have to wonder whether or not this means we’ll get to meet a younger version of Jyn Erso here as well. The timelines would match up for her to appear as a child, and [SPOILER ALERT] we may also get to learn more about why Saw abandoned her as a sixteen year old. Nothing official has been announced yet though, so time will tell on that!
The poster below was spotted in a Toys R Us, and now it’s out there, more details should follow shortly. The show will no doubt incorporate plenty of other Rogue One Easter Eggs too.
