Earlier today, it was revealed that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be heading back to Skellig Michael Island in Ireland for reshoots. However, it turns out that those reports were inaccurate as Lucasfilm has now confirmed that the actual plan is for Rian Johnson to start shooting sequences there for 2017’s Star Wars Episode VIII. That’s definitely a surprise!

That’s not the only surprising bit of Star Wars news today though. As you’ve likely already heard, Marvel Comics have released a series of Star Wars comics to fill the gap between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back (bear in mind that the Expanded Universe no longer exists). The latest however picks up straight after the events of Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars: Shattered Empire is written by Greg Rucka with art from Marco Checchetto, and the first issue introduced the parents of Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot who will be played by Oscar Isaac in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Kes and Shara Dameron look set to be the leads of this new four part series, and this is a nice way of tying into J.J. Abrams’ movie.

Just how important they’re going to end up being to the formation of the Resistance and The Force Awakens remains to be seen, but these Star Wars comics are a must-read for fans of the franchise. As we get closer to the movie, more comics and novels are set to be released revealing what happened in the years following the fall of Darth Vader and The Emperor, so stay tuned to HeyUGuys for all the latest twists and turns as December 17th nears.
