There are many choice moments from the continuing big screen adventures of the Enterprise and her crew and from this plentiful orchard Dave and I have plucked six of our favourites.
A few which almost made the list include the destruction of the USS Kelvin in Abrams’ first Star Trek film (which manages to imbue more emotion and excitement into a handful of minutes than most films manage in their entire running time), the meeting of Kirk and Picard in Generations, ‘Hello, Computer…’, the final moments of The Undiscovered Country when the crew set sail one last time…
Plenty More Letters in the Alphabet | Star Trek: Generations
In the first of the ‘Next Generation’ Star Trek movies, we all marvelled as Captain Jean-Luc Picard famously got to meet Captain Kirk. What we weren’t so keen on however was seeing NCC 1701-D go crashing down into a planet. As gutted as we were to see the old girl down, it was rather a surprise when in the very next film, Star Trek: First Contact, the same thing was apparently going to happen only this time through a self destruct sequence!
As annoying as it was to see, the situation was calmed by the wonderful Jean-Luc by uttering the words “Plenty of letters left in the alphabet“ implying to all of us that Star Trek will never end which suits me fine!
Picard: This is Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Destruct sequence alpha-one, 15 minutes, silent countdown. Enable.
Computer: Self-destruct in 15 minutes. There will be no further audio warnings.
