Prime Video has officially announced that Emmy-nominated actress Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones, Joan) will take on the role of the legendary adventurer Lara Croft in its highly anticipated new series, ‘Tomb Raider.’
The series, adapted from the globally renowned video game franchise, is set to begin production on January 19, 2026, with Amazon MGM Studios confirming the date.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) will serve as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner, bringing her sharp wit and storytelling flair to the project. She will be joined by Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shōgun, Top Boy) as director and executive producer, and Chad Hodge (Good Behaviour, The Darkest Minds) as co-showrunner and executive producer.

The series will follow Croft’s globe-trotting adventures as a world-famous archaeologist and fearless explorer, continuing the rich legacy of one of gaming’s most iconic heroines.
Turner expressed her excitement about stepping into Croft’s boots, saying:
“I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
The series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson through Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television. It is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios.
With Turner taking on the mantle of Lara Croft and Waller-Bridge leading the creative charge, Prime Video’s Tomb Raider looks set to deliver a bold, modern reimagining of the beloved franchise.
