Sega have announced a sequel to their 2012 kart racer Sonic And Sega All -Stars Racing. This time they have added ‘Transformed’ to the title.

But what does this ‘Transformed’ mean? Well, it means Sega have taken another leaf from Nintendo’s book of kart racing success and made the karts transform into planes and water type vehicles. Just like Mario Kart on the 3DS.

According to Sega Sonic And Sega All-stars Racing: Transformed is “a thrilling new racing experience featuring Sonic the Hedgehog and a fantastic cast of Sega All-Stars competing across land, air and water in vehicles that fully transform from cars, to planes to boats”.

The result in this new element to the racing is tracks that transform on the fly, for example, an airship crashes into a section of the Panzer Dragoon course, flooding sections of the track meaning you will have to transform to your boat form.

Don’t expect to find this game on shop shelves however, or on the Wii for that matter as Sonic and Sega All-Stars: Transformed will be a digital only download for PS3, 360, 3DS, Vita, and PC sometime this year.

I really enjoyed the first game, and an ideal antidote for those tired of the Nintendo brand of karting. Check out the screens and announcement trailer below.
