To celebrate the release of the anticipated new Apple TV+ series Smoke, from the makers behind Black Bird, we had the pleasure of chatting to the cast and creator about the new show.
Inspired by true events, “Smoke” follows a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator as they pursue the trials of two serial arsonists.
Starring Taron Egerton as arson investigator Dave Gudsen and Emmy Award nominee Jurnee Smollett as police detective Michelle Calderone, the cast of “Smoke” also features Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Adina Porter, with Emmy Award nominee Anna Chlumsky, Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Greg Kinnear, and Emmy Award winner John Leguizamo.
Chatting with cast members Egerton, Smollett, and Mbaho Mwine, we discuss the lure of the series and its intriguing, unique premise, the layers of their characters and their relationships within the series, why Lehane is one of the world’s finest writers, and much more.
We also chat to series creator Lehane on reteaming with Egerton after Black Bird, and why they both share the same “scared” factor when taking on projects that challenge them, creating the characters and story and how a podcast helped form the basis for the show and why he initially turned down the chance to work on the series.
