Despite the fact that he’s currently in the process of preparing to shoot Alien Covenant, the ever busy Sir Ridley Scott may already have his next movie lined up according to a new report as the filmmaker is in early talks to bring classic British TV series The Prisoner to the big screen. The original first aired in 1968 and starred Patrick McGoohan in the lead role.

A remake was developed by ITV in 2009, but was abruptly cancelled after only six episodes.

Various writers have taken a crack at this reboot of The Prisoner, including Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’s Christopher McQuarrie. The latest draft was penned by The Departed William Monahan, and it’s thought that Scott’s Scott Free team will produce the movie and get the script to a place where the director is happy to move forward with it.

Various writers are being eyed for that as of right now, as are several big name actors.

Deadline has provided a recap for premise of the series, and it serves as a nice reminder of what we should likely expect from this movie: “The Prisoner (known only as Number Six) is a former government agent who abruptly resigns from his job and finds himself imprisoned in an idyllic yet bizarre seaside village isolated from the world by the sea and mountains. He can’t escape because he knows too much, but that doesn’t stop others trying to capture him for his knowledge. What he wants is to keep them at bay and find his way to freedom.”

The Prisoner definitely has a lot of potential in the right hands, and so Scott being attached to the project is very good news indeed. Hopefully we’ll hear more on this one very soon…
