Well, we seem to be awash with Batman 3 and Michael Caine news at the moment.

Christopher Nolan is writing it, then he confirms he’ll be directing it, then Sir Michael embarks on Twitter. And that’s all in the last five days!

Now, Sir Michael has announced that shooting on the Batman threequel is due to start in May 2011. He was appearing on Chris Moyles Radio 1 show to discuss his new autobiography, The Elephant to Hollywood (you can win a copy here) and talk turned to Batman. His exact words were that shooting would:-

“probably start in May next year…I assume I’m there. In the movie business, you never believe anything, you assume.”

Sir Michael also added that the Nolans are not yet letting slip on who the villain will be, which must be spectacularly annoying, given that they clearly have decided who it will be.

It seems inconceivable that Sir Michael won’t appear in Batman 3, given that he has become Nolan’s muse of late. Frankly, shooting, editing and the release of this film cannot come soon enough. Alas, we all have to wait until July 2012. That’s the way the cookie crumbles, folks.

Thanks to ComingSoon for the heads up on this one.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
