The votes are in and the winners have been announced in a ceremony held at Sheffield Crucible Theatre this morning. Sean McAllister’s A Syrian Love Story, a moving five-year portrait of a family of Syrians displaced and driven into exile, with McAllister himself at the heart of the story as he is arrested and sees his footage confiscated, wins the Grand Jury prize. Jerry Rothwell’s archival triumph on the birth of Greenpeace, How to Change the World, wins the Environmental Award while Marc Silver’s 3½ Minutes, Ten Bullets bags the Youth Jury Award for its powerful meditation on racial politics and structural inequality in the US.
