Aardman have just released the first image for their forthcoming film, Shaun the Sheep Movie 2. Production kicks off in January next year.

We loved the first film, and the move to the big screen after twenty years of small screen adventures proved successful thanks to Aardman’s creative excellence. A sequel was perhaps inevitable, but it is welcome news nonetheless.

The first film’s director (and the man behind Creature Comforts) Richard Starzak returns to helm the sequel.

RELATED: We are just tentatively talking about ideas for a sequel in case StudioCanal are interested and in case the world’s interested… our interview with director Richard Starzak.

Co-founder and Executive Chairman at Aardman David Sproxton  is quoted in the accompanying press release:

“Shaun’s move to the big screen proved such a success with audiences around the world that he and the flock are very excited to be embarking on another big screen adventure. Aardman is partnering with STUDIOCANAL once again to produce another rip-roaring comedy, featuring Shaun and the rest of the gang in a story that takes them to even greater heights of lunacy.“

Here’s the first image from the film, which looks just perfect.
