Director Shane Black has been circling a number of projects since helming $1 billion hit Iron Man 3, including a sequel to Predators. However, his next project has now been set in stone as Warner Bros. have dated The Nice Guys for a June 17th, 2016 release. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are confirmed to star.

The Lethal Weapon scribe has been working on the 1970s set noir for a number of years alongside producer Joel Silver, and while both Gosling and Crowe have been attached/rumoured for months now, it is only today that we’re getting any sort of solid confirmation that the project is moving ahead.

Production on the movie which Shane Black wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi is set to begin this Autumn, and while The Nice Guys may not be a big budget blockbuster, another detective movie from the filmmaker after his brilliant directorial debut in 2005 with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is well worth being excited about!

The Nice Guys revolves around a private detective and a muscle for hire who cross paths when they each start investigating the disappearance of a girl and the seemingly unrelated suicide of a fading porn star.

When it opens in 2016, the movie will face off against two big animated sequels; Pixar’s Finding Dory and Dreamworks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon 3. Are you glad that this is Shane Black’s next movie?
