McNairy will play Tom, a father who suffers a terrible loss that ties his fate to that of two state police detectives over 10 years. Dorff will play the role of the Arkansas State Investigator Roland West, the partner of Ali’s Wayne Hays who is a Northwest Arkansas state police detective. Ejogo will play Amelia Reardon, a school teacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980.

The third season of the anticipated series will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.

Jeremy Saulnier (“Green Room,” “Blue Ruin”) will co-direct alongside series creator Nic Pizzolatto with Pizzolatto penning all the episodes except for the fourth episode which he’s co-writing with “Deadwood” creator David Milch.  Pizzolatto, who also serves as showrunner, executive produces with Saulnier and returning executive producers Scott Stephens.

True Detective first hit our screens back in 2014 with series 1 boasting phenomenal performances from both Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. Season two came a year later with Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughan leading the charge but it never quite hit the same notes as its predecessor.

McNairy will be seen in the upcoming film, The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter with Josh Brolin and Danny McBride.

As yet no premiere date has been set for season 3.
