Prime Video has revealed a glimpse at ‘Scarpetta’, unveiling the official trailer for the long-awaited forensic crime thriller inspired by Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling Kay Scarpetta novels. Developed and written for television by Emmy-nominated showrunner Liz Sarnoff (Barry, Lost), the series finally brings one of crime fiction’s most enduring investigators from page to screen.
At the centre stands Nicole Kidman as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a fiercely intelligent medical examiner whose precision with a scalpel is matched only by her relentless pursuit of truth. Determined to give victims a voice, Scarpetta finds herself drawn into the hunt for a serial killer while confronting the lingering shadow of a career-defining case from 28 years earlier that may yet become her undoing.
Set within the ever-evolving world of modern forensic science, ‘Scarpetta’ stretches beyond autopsy tables and evidence lockers to probe the psychological terrain of both hunter and hunted. The result is a layered thriller that examines the personal cost of justice when obsession becomes a driving force.
Sarnoff’s adaptation unfolds across two timelines, tracing Scarpetta’s rise as a Chief Medical Examiner in the late 1990s alongside her present-day return to her hometown, where she resumes her former role amid a grisly new murder investigation. The journey forces her to navigate fractured relationships, including a volatile bond with her sister Dorothy Farinelli (Jamie Lee Curtis). At the same time, buried grudges and long-guarded secrets threaten to fracture everything she has built.
The ensemble surrounding Kidman reads like an awards-season roll call. Jamie Lee Curtis stars as Dorothy, Bobby Cannavale plays determined detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker appears as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose portrays Scarpetta’s brilliant, tech-savvy niece Lucy Farinelli Watson. Completing the dual-timeline structure are Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish, who embody the younger versions of the core characters.
