It’s certainly clear we are living in a time where original creativity is a bit of a myth. Fox has found a way in which to revive John Hughes’ classic Home Alone, this time with an adult pothead and Deadpool’s own Ryan Reynolds leading the charge.

The plot outline readsStoned Alone is reminiscent of that hallowed comedy classic. It centres around a twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle.

Reynolds will produce through his Fox-based Maximum Effort production banner, with Maximum Effort’s George Dewey as executive producer. Never Goin’ Back’s Augustine Frizzell will direct from a script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.

The original Home Alone was released in 1990, directed by Chris Columbus and written/produced by John Hughes it gave Macauley Culkin his break as the spunky youngster, Kevin. In the film, Kevin is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. Kevin initially relishes being home alone, but soon has to contend with two would-be burglars played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. The film also features Catherine O’Hara and John Heard as Kevin’s parents.

It became the highest-grossing live action comedy film of all time in the United States. It also held the record worldwide until it was overtaken by The Hangover Part II in 2011.
