Rush-PosterUnderstandably one of the most anticipated films of the year, Ron Howard’s Rush sees the director reuniting with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) for what could be the greatest sporting drama we’ve seen in years.

The Jackie Robinson biopic, 42, soared to the top of the US box office this month. And I have a great feeling that Rush is headed for similar fortunes later this year, especially given the adrenaline-fuelled nature of the sport.

The first trailer rolled in earlier in the month, giving us a great first look at Howard’s upcoming F1 movie. And now EW have debuted a new poster, with Chris Hemsworth front and centre.

The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.

Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.

Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl take the lead here as James Hunt and Niki Lauda, with Olivia Wilde, Alexandra Maria Lara, and Natalie Dormer completing the cast brilliantly.

Its September release date puts it a little early on the calendar, but I think this could well be a contender come Oscar season at the end of the year.

Rush is set to hit cinemas in the UK on 13th September, with its US release date following a week later on September 20th.
