The Fan Carpet are reporting that Olivia Wilde (Tron: Legacy) is the top choice to star as Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider reboot, a role Angelina Jolie (The Changeling) played in two films between 2001 and 2003.

The website posted a quote from an unnamed source saying:

“This would be a far darker and more serious Tomb Raider movie, the idea is to get a top director and an intelligent script and make this an empowering character for women as well as a popular one with men. Olivia is just one of the names being suggested for the lead role. She would appear to be ideal.”

A reboot of the Tomb Raider film series has been on the cards since Warner Bros. Pictures and producer Dan Lin announced in 2009 that they were interested in bringing the archaeologist-adventurer back to the big screen.

Wilde will next be seen in Jon Favreau’s action-thriller Cowboys & Aliens, due for release on August 12.
