Could we be in for a return of Robocop? According to a recent interview with the original scribe of the film, Ed Neumeier, MGM has set him to pen a new adventure for the cyborg.

In an interview with Zeitgeist Magazine Neumeier revealed that he is working on a new script when questioned on the popularity of the originals and its subsequent follow-ups.

I think all of that came out of that and it’s nice that people are still interested in RoboCop, and they have me working on a new one at MGM right now so maybe we’ll get another one out of it.

Even though he is under strict instructions not to reveal what the film will be about he did go on to mention that they would be going back to basics.

There’s been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward,” he said. “So it’s a continuation really of the first movie. In my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old school thing.

The 1987 Robocop was directed by Paul Verhoeven, Set in a crime-ridden Detroit, Michigan, in the near future, RoboCop centers on police officer Alex Murphy (Weller) who is murdered by a gang of criminals and subsequently revived by the megacorporation Omni Consumer Products (OCP) as a superhuman cyborg law enforcer known as RoboCop.

The film starred Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Dan O’Herlihy, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer, and Ronny Cox.
