The project was initially put on hold earlier this year due to the financial problems MGM were facing, which has also stalled production on other films such as Bond 23 and The Hobbit.

The film would have been a remake of Paul Verhoeven successful sci-fi adventure, which spawned a further two sequels. RoboCop centred on a terminally wounded cop who returned to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him.

An insider told Moviehole, “”[RoboCop is] gone. Kaput. Cancelled. It was one of the first casualties. [Aronofsky] has lost interest anyway, I believe. [I] think we’re all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there.”

A lot of die-hard fans, including myself, were sceptical about the proposed remake when it was initially announced, so it seems the news will have a lot of people feeling satisfied. In saying that, there’s still a little part of me that’s intrigued to see what Aronofsky would have brought to the table.
