ExpendaBelle

The Sylvester Stallone-produced The ExpendaBelles has been in the works for a while now, but the movie (which has been described as the “estrogen-powered equivalent of the testosterone-fuelled The Expendables franchise”) finally has a director attached.

21 and Monster in Law helmer Robert Luketic will direct, re-teaming with Legally Blonde writers Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah. Shooting is expected to start this summer, while casting should also begin soon.

Various names have been linked to The ExpendaBelles since it was first announced, with one report last year claiming that Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz, and Milla Jovovich were all in talks. Deadline meanwhile say that nobody is set as of yet, and a short list is only just now being put together.

Here’s the logline for the movie. It certainly sounds like a unique(?) premise!

When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator – and instead save the scientist and the day.
