The animated sequel launches the studio’s second franchise, following the immensely successful Ice Age series. And after launching the first teaser trailers earlier in the year, the first full-length trailer landed online last night over on Apple.
The entire cast of the animated smash RIO returns in RIO 2, and they are joined by a new flock of top actors and musical talents. Rich with grandeur, character, color and music, RIO 2 finds Jewel (Anne Hathaway), Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) and their three kids leaving their domesticated life in that magical city for a journey to the Amazon. They encounter a menagerie of characters who are born to be wild, voiced by Oscar nominee Andy Garcia, Oscar/Emmy/Tony-winner Rita Moreno, Grammy winner Bruno Mars, and Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth.
Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway are of course back voicing the leading roles of Jewel and Blu once more, and they’re joined by another great cast, led by Leslie Mann, Jemaine Clement, Jamie Foxx, George Lopez, will.i.am, Rodrigo Santoro, Tracy Morgan, Bebel Gilberto, Jake T. Austin, Andy Garcia, Bruno Mars, Kristin Chenoweth, Rita Moreno, Amanda Stenberg, Rachel Crow, Janelle Monáe, Pierce Gagnon, and Natalie Morales.
Carlos Saldanha is back in the director’s chair, with a script he co-wrote with the late Don Rhymer, who co-wrote the first film.
Rio 2 will be released in 3D on 4th April, 2014 in the UK, with its US release date set for April 11th, 2014.
