Well, it seems now that David Webb Peoples, the guy who wrote Blade Runner and 12 Monkeys, is working on the fourth draft of the script alongside Joe Haldeman, the writer of the 1947 novel.
I think the two of them combined will be able to complete a very sophisticated script that, if executed by Scott properly, could result in an amazing sci-fi cinematic experience.
The Forever war “revolves around a soldier who battles an enemy in deep space for only a few months, only to return home to a planet he doesn’t recognize some 20 years later.”
Let’s hope that the script is finished within the year so that Scott has the opportunity to start working on the film within the next five. Right now he has his hands full with the Alien prequels and tons of other stuff but this is a classic novel which deserves to make it to the big screen.
