Riddick-PosterVin Diesel makes a long-awaited return as the antihero in Riddick next month, and that return has been building momentum nicely in recent months.

Universal took the movie to Comic-Con and released a great new red-band trailer last month. And now a new trailer has landed online, via Regal Movies, giving another great flavour of what’s soon to hit cinemas.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Diesel is joined by a great cast, led by Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Nolan Gerard Funk, Keri Hilson, and WWE’s Dave Bautista. Also reprising his role will be Karl Urban, who starred as Vaako in The Chronicles of Riddick.

Given that Urban is yet to appear in any of the footage released so far, there’s a good chance that his role will be fairly small in this. But smart money says that his appearance would tee up the possibility of another sequel, which could in turn see him return in a more prominent role.

David Twohy is once more directing from his own script, reteaming with Diesel for the long-awaited feature, following 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick.

Riddick will be hitting regular and IMAX cinemas on 4th September here in the UK, with its US release date following that Friday on September 6th.
