Resident Evil (aka The Franchise That Won’t Die) is back for round five.

Movieweb are reporting that Sony Pictures have September 2012 in mind for Resident Evil 5 (which has yet to receive its colon title) and Milla Jovovich is set to reprise her role of ex-Umbrella employee Alice, yet again.

There’s also a 3D animated sequel to the 2008’s Resident Evil: Degeneration, due in cinemas the same year as the forth live-action sequel. Really??? The extended shelf life of this series is astounding. The first was hardly a huge money-making hit to warrant an almost decade-long run, but it’s obviously from the number of films that it’s a sound money-making enterprise (and DVD sales undoubtedly boost the numbers up too).

No word yet if twice director and overall godfather of the franchise, Paul W.S. Anderson, will be calling the shots this time around. That may depend on the success of his new version of The Three Musketeers (due for release in the UK 14th October this year).
