To celebrate the UK release of Rental Family, we sat down with Brendan Fraser and Hikari to discuss the cultural differences when filming abroad, the production of the film and the motivations for making it. Brendan details the interest in filming in Japan and the differences that he felt when working there. In the film, he plays an out of work actor who moves to Japan and lands a unique job pretending to be people in others lives. We discuss with him various jobs that he has worked in the past and what he had to bring to this role physically in acting out of the ordinary in Japan.
Hikari delves into the motivations for making the film and how her life parallels it. As the character Phillip feels out of place in Japan, she too felt out of place when first moving to America. She discusses the draw of Brendan Fraser and how she knew that he would be the perfect actor for this role.
