The film, which is in initial stages of development, is being set up at Fox 2000.

As well as playing the legendary singer, Reese Witherspoon will also serve as one of the film’s producers. Nora Ephron, who has previously directed Julie & Julia and It’s Complicated, will both write and direct the biopic.

The film is likely to explore Lee’s turbulent life, while offering a unique take on her seven decades within the music and film industry.

Reese Witherspoon received a lot of praise from critics when she portrayed June Carter Cash in James Mangold’s Walk The Line (even earning herself an Academy Award for Best Actress), so it’ll be interesting to see her play another music icon, this time under the direction of rom-com extraordinaire, Nora Ephron.

Variety reported this one.
