Red-Dawn-UK-Quad-PosterRed Dawn, the remake of the cult classic ’80s movie of the same name, was finally released in the US late last year after getting delayed for a few years following MGM’s financial troubles.

Fast forward a few months, and the film is finally about to be released on our shores, having been acquired by Koch Media. And with its UK release date fast approaching, arriving next Friday, we’ve had the new trailer sent over to share.

“In RED DAWN, a city in Washington State awakens to the surreal sight of North Korean paratroopers dropping from the sky – the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganising themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the “Wolverines”, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.”

Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Brett Cullen, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan lead the impressive cast.

Long-time stunt co-ordinator Dan Bradley (the Bourne films, Three Kings) makes his directorial debut, directing from a script by Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia) and Jeremy Passmore (Special).

Though the film didn’t perform well at the box office in the US late last year, I have a lot of love for the entirety of this stellar cast, and am looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table here.

Its Stateside release saw it opening against Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, which was of course a major contender in the awards race at the time. And it was released only one week after The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, so I’m willing to believe that its box office performance isn’t a reflection of its worth.

Red Dawn will be released in the UK next Friday, 15th March. In the US, it has just been released this week on Blu-ray and DVD, so is available to pick up now for viewing in the comfort of your own home.
