While I can’t get behind the retitling of the film (for a start it makes no sense at all) but I am happy that Steven Spielberg’s first outing for Doctor Jones  is a) heading back to the cinemas again, albeit dressed up in IMAX finery, and b) is coming to Blu-ray with its franchise brethren.

Of course, there’s no word yet about a UK IMAX release but you’d be a fool to pass this opportunity by, not least because it’ll erase memories of the older Jones knocking about with a Crystal Skull or two.

Spielberg gave an interview to The New York Times recently and talked about the changes which needed to be made to the 1981 film in order to ready it up for its IMAXing. Check out the interview here, but don’t worry – Satipo doesn’t survive his grisly fate nor will there be a CG’d Sean Connery shoved in for continuity’s sake.

It’ll be interesting to see if Spielberg will choose the IMAX revisiting over a 3D conversion – and what this will mean for the continuing trend of directors re-releasing their classics in a new format. UK fans – we’ll keep you posted about the whole IMAX re-releasing over here. It has to happen right?

Below is the poster, the trailer follows.
