To celebrate the release of Disney’s newest animation feature, Raya and the Last Dragon, we had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with the creatives behind this extraordinary new film.

The film is the latest from the studio behind so many animated classics including Frozen, Tangled, and Moana, and features the voice talents of some really exciting names including Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Sandra Oh, Gemma Chan, and many more. Raya and the Last Dragon takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people.

Directors Don Hall and Carlos Lopez Estrada, screenwriters Adele Lim and Qui Nguyen, and producer Osnat Shurer about the long process of making the film, finishing it during lockdowns, why now was the right time to tell a story about these cultures and people, and whether or not that much-rumoured “R-rated” version of the film really exists or is a modern urban legend…
