Set almost 2,000 years ago, on the eve of the destruction of the titular city, Paul W.S. Anderson’s Pompeii has long been shaping up to be one of the biggest blockbusters of next year.
Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) lead the stellar cast. And with less than three months to go before the destruction arrives on the big screen, Sony and FilmDistrict have released the first full-length trailer.
Set in 79 A.D., POMPEII tells the epic story of Milo (Kit Harington), a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia (Emily Browning), the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts in a torrent of blazing lava, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.
Starring alongside Harington and Browning are Kiefer Sutherland, Carrie-Anne Moss, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jared Harris, and Jessica Lucas.
Anderson is directing from a script penned by Lee and Janet Scott Batchler (Batman Forever) and Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes).
Pompeii will be released in 2D and 3D on February 21st, 2014 in the US and UK. Judging by the looks of this new trailer, it’s going to be every bit the mammoth blockbuster you’d expect from Anderson in a film like this.
