With the film heading into cinemas in the US later this month, Sony are understandably using tonight’s Super Bowl to promote the film’s arrival, and aptly so. The game is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, with this new teaser providing a look at the Gladiator games alongside the moment disaster strikes.
Set in 79 A.D., POMPEII tells the epic story of Milo (Kit Harington), a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia (Emily Browning), the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts in a torrent of blazing lava, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.
Leading duo Harington and Browning are joined by a stellar cast, headed up by Kiefer Sutherland, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jared Harris, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Jessica Lucas.
Anderson directs from a script co-written by Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler (Batman Forever) and Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes), with the director also producing.
Pompeii will be released in 3D on February 21st in the US. Here in the UK, we’ve got a little longer to wait, with its release date set for 2nd May on our shores, but it looks like it should be worth the wait.
