Beloved for directing the likes of Home Alone, Harry Potter, and Mrs. Doubtfire, Chris Columbus is returning behind the camera for his first film in years, bringing the Adam Sandler-led Pixels to the multiplex this summer.

The film is one of Sony’s highest-profile films in the blockbuster season, opening towards the end of July. And with that all-important window fast approaching, we’ve finally got the first teaser, giving us a better idea of what’s coming our way.

When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack Earth using the games as models for their various assaults. President William Cooper (Kevin James) calls upon his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), who had a previous relationship to his attractive wife (Jane Krakowski) to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.

Sandler is joined by a brilliant roster, sharing the screen with Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin James, Brian Cox, Ashley Benson, and Jane Krakowski.

Timothy Dowling (Role Models) and Tim Herlihy (Big Daddy) co-wrote the script.

Pixels hits cinemas in 3D in the US on 24th July and in the UK on 12th August.
