It’s pretty hard to sit through the excellent, romantic drama Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool without crying – and one can only imagine how challenging and moving it must be for Peter Turner, watching his own story played back to him in Paul McGuigan’s feature.

Portrayed on screen by Jamie Bell, Peter was a young man from Liverpool who happened to fall in love with one of the stars of Hollywood’s golden era, Gloria Grahame (Annette Bening). We had the pleasure of sitting down with the man himself – and he was paired with, quite staggeringly, producer Barbara Broccoli, renowned, primarily, for a certain cinematic figure we call James Bond.

We spoke to the pair about the profound aspects of this narrative and what it was like for Turner to watch the story back. We also discussed the quite remarkable talent of Jamie Bell, and Broccoli explained that this has been a story that has lived with her a long time, as one she’s been keen to get off the ground for a good long while. Naturally we couldn’t leave without asking one question about Bond either. So we went for the big one – what’s it going to be called? Needless to say we didn’t get very far, but we did touch upon the return of Daniel Craig.
