A big HeyUGuys hello from the One Day Press Conference

I’ve just taken my place and am drying off from the horrible weather, waiting for the talent to arrive!

Today we have the gorgeous Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Lone Sherfig and the author of the book David Nicholls.

Soon we’ll have a picture or two to show you lovely folk so stay tuned

The hotel conference room is very swish but we’re all a bit shivery from the air con… Slightly wishing they had cuddly blankets next to the complimentary sandwiches.

We’re just getting a snap of the scene so you can see where the talent will be taking centre stage

Everything’s running a little behind. So we’re expecting Jim and Anne to look ravishing

Oh looks like it’s all go!

Everybody’s taking their places

And here comes Anne looking very pretty in black with her co star Jim Sturgess

Here comes Dave Nichols to a wave of applause followed by the director and the stars

Dave is being asked about the global craze which is One Day

Dave: There are always 4 or 5 writers on these movies but I went into the movie not expecting to get through to the press conference.

He really enjoyed writing the screenplay, it’s where he started before writing novels

He was aware though that elements of the book wouldn’t work on screen, things he loved about the book but he was “realistic” about the adaptations

Obviously there was a weight on the team’s shoulders to make this movie. Director Lone Scherfig is a very eloquent woman, she talks about the film like it’s very close to her heart

Scherfig and Nicholls agree that the film is convincing and touching, especially the characters physical ageing and experiences

Anne wishes she hadn’t known the weight of expectations when she took on the role of Emma

She quickly realized she’d disappoint some people… she understands that as a book lover but she’s also a movie lover and she knows you can do things on screen that you can’t on the page.

Some days she felt totally overwhelmed by the criticism but she says there’s a lot to be had from Scherfig’s vision

Sturgess says he’s happy to be in a film people will actually see!

Sturgess is commenting on the book and how it began to freak him out when he realized how HUGE it was

When the film started it’s production the book had only come out in paperback in the UK and was just taking off in the US

So much of the bestseller chart rating hype has happened during their production on the movie

Now taking questions from the audience on the film, I will be omitting spoliers!

Anne is talking about how she got into the role of Emma, how she got into the mindset of that Yorkshire girl, she said she spent a lot of time studying the book and to get the accent down she watched Emmerdale!

On chemistry on set Jim says that Dexter and Emma have great chemistry in the book but that off set him and Anne were lucky to get on so well. It came naturally. Anne says they played a lot of cards and played each other music and that played a lot into their developing chemistry

Anne says they went out for the first time in Edinburgh and the film crew went out and hung out and enjoyed themselves. Jim says they bonded over scotch whiskey

Jim: It was pretty effortless

Apparently they played the card game ‘Shit head’ 😀

Some music questions about the British contemporary music (Robbie Williams and S Club 7) on the soundtrack for the movie

Apparently in the scene where Tilly sings Angels by Robbie, Anne was the only one who didn’t know the song.

Dave gave Anne the best present she ever got which was Emma Morely’s iPod

What have the actors worst jobs been? Jim’s was a pot wash boy in a restaurant and just like Emma in the story he was promoted to salad boy and he said the excitement he felt about it showed he needed to do something more with his life.

Anne says she’s been very lucky as she’s been a professional actress since she was 13

On Scotland:

Jim says they had to run up and down stairs in Edinburgh lots of times. That the scots were very friendly.

But they mostly kept their cool when Anne was on the streets of London, they saw some great bands (Anne’s sure it’s a band called rat bastard)

Director Lone says she loves the accent and would love to come back to Scotland to shoot another movie

David’s experiences and time spent in Edinburgh is quite clear from the book but apparently there’s a tour you can take of Dex and Emma’s time in Edinburgh.

Anne says the weather would change immediately and apparently one very rainy day a lovely lady let them sit in her parlour and she saw two policemen outside wearing nothing but tshirts and shorts, which she found amazing!
