Acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson returns with a wickedly subversive black comedy action film, ‘One Battle After Another,’ and a new trailer has finally arrived—promising a stylish, high-stakes thrill ride brimming with grit, absurdity, and nostalgia-drenched chaos.
Leonardo DiCaprio leads the all-star ensemble in this modern-day adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s cult classic Vineland. Set in the fragmented haze of 1984 Northern California, the film tackles the lingering fallout of the 1960s counterculture as it collides with the cold realities of Reagan-era America.
The trailer opens with sun-bleached flashbacks and VHS fuzz, before snapping into the present with DiCaprio’s jaded ex-revolutionary—grizzled, cynical, and in hiding—being dragged back into the fray. When his estranged daughter vanishes, abducted by a vengeful adversary long thought dead, he’s forced to rally his old comrades for one last, ludicrous mission.
Joining him are powerhouse talents Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn, both playing war-torn radicals with more baggage than bullets. Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim round out the eclectic crew of rebels, each armed with biting wit, emotional scars, and questionable weaponry.
Written and directed by Anderson, One Battle After Another blends anarchic humour with explosive action and cultural satire, anchored by DiCaprio’s gritty performance. Anderson also produces alongside longtime collaborators Adam Somner and Sara Murphy, with Will Weiske serving as executive producer.
From guerrilla warfare flashbacks to mall parking lot stakeouts, the trailer teases a kaleidoscope of chaos—complete with needle drops, blood-splattered tracksuits, and cryptic government agents. But at its heart, it’s a story about regret, redemption, and the revolution that never really ended.
