His Rock-ness, Dwayne Johnson, along with Luiz Guzman (Traffic, Boogie Nights), Josh Hutcherson (Bridge to Teribithia) and Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical) are now hard at work in Hawaii, shooting the sequel to Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

The sequel finds Hutcherson’s Sean receiving a coded distress signal from the titular island, despite no island being supposed to exist there. Johnson plays Sean’s step-father who, along with Sean, Luiz Guzman’s helicopter pilot and his daughter (Hudgens) set off to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before it is buried under the sea.

How do we know they are hard at work I hear you ask? Well, because those kind folks at Coming Soon have given us this on-set photo, showing them working away, that’s how. Also, Sir Michael Caine has been tweeting to confirm he is shooting as well. If you’re not following him, you should do so here.

Now that filming is up and running, we can expect more on-set snaps and we will of course bring you all of the news as it develops.
