Led by Tom Cruise, we caught an impressive first trailer and poster for the film last month, giving us a great first look at some of the sci-fi and action that Kosinski will be bringing our way in a few months’ time. And with the film’s release on the horizon, USA Today have debuted a new image of Cruise alongside the ever-brilliant Morgan Freeman.
“On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.
Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.
Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.”
Cruise and Freeman are joined by a fine cast, headed up by Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, and Zoë Bell.
Kosinki is directing from a script co-written by himself, William Monahan (The Departed), Karl Gajdusek (Last Resort), and Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII), based on an original graphic novel by Kosinski and Arvid Nelson.
And on top of all that, the increasingly well-known French electronica band, M83, are scoring the film, so it’s going to have a killer soundtrack.
Oblivion is set for release in the UK and IMAX theatres in the US on 12th April, with its wide US release date set for a week later on 19th April. Until then, here’s the latest image of Cruise and Freeman, presumably at loggerheads. Enjoy.
