Chernobyl Diaries quad posterCo-written by Oren Peli, writer-director of overnight horror success story Paranormal Activity, Chernobyl Diaries has been kicking up a bit of a controversy for setting the film in the disaster-struck Chernobyl.

We’ve had the new UK trailer and poster sent over, and if you’re a horror film fan, it looks like this is definitely something you won’t want to miss.

“Chernobyl Diaries” is an original story from Oren Peli, who first terrified audiences with his groundbreaking thriller “Paranormal Activity.” The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour guide.” Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone…

Bradley Parker, who worked as a digital artist on Fight Club and more recently as a visual effects supervisor on Let Me In, makes his directorial debut here, directing from a script Peli co-wrote with brother Carey and Shane Van Dyke.

Chernobyl Diaries is set for release on Friday, 25th May in the US, and will be coming to us a little later here in the UK on 22nd June, so be sure to commit the date to memory. Until then, we leave you with the new UK trailer and quad poster, which you can click to enlarge. A horror like this is just what we want whilst we wait for the superhero blockbusters to hit the big screen in July.
