We caught a great first trailer and poster last week for the upcoming surfing movie, Chasing Mavericks, starring Gerard Butler and newcomer Jonny Weston, telling the true story of surfing legend Jay Moriarty.

And now a second version of the trailer has already made its way online, debuting over at IMDb, and it continues to look promising. It’s not at all often we get to see a surfing movie on the big screen, so I’m always on board (no pun intended) when they come.

“CHASING MAVERICKS is the inspirational true story of real life surfing phenom Jay Moriarity (newcomer Jonny Weston). When 15-year-old Jay discovers that the mythic Mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on Earth, is not only real, but exists just miles from his Santa Cruz home, he enlists the help of local legend Frosty Hesson (Gerard Butler) to train him to survive it. As Jay and Frosty embark on their quest to accomplish the impossible, they form a unique friendship that transforms both their lives, and their quest to tame Mavericks becomes about far more than surfing. Chasing Mavericks was made with the help of some of the biggest names in the surfing world, and features some of the most mind-blowing real wave footage ever captured on film.”

The brilliant Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile) is behind the camera, directing from a script co-written by Brandon Hooper and Kario Salem, with Elisabeth Shue and Abigail Spencer co-starring.

Chasing Mavericks, previously titled Of Men and Mavericks, will be released in the US on 26th October, before heading across the Atlantic a week later for a 2nd November release in the UK. Here’s the great new trailer to tie you over.
