An absolutely fantastic trailer has just come out from Oscilloscope Laboratories, the rising distribution company set up by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, for the latest film they’re putting out, The Other F Word.

The documentary is set to be a brilliant look at the new roles that some of punk-rock’s biggest heroes have taken up after wearing that other f word, Fatherhood, like a badge of honour.

“This revealing and touching film asks what happens when a generation’s ultimate anti-authoritarians — punk rockers — become society’s ultimate authorities — dads. With a large chorus of punk rock’s leading men – Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath – THE OTHER F WORD follows Jim Lindberg, a 20-year veteran of the skate punk band Pennywise, on his hysterical and moving journey from belting his band’s anthem “F–k Authority,” to embracing his ultimately authoritarian role in mid-life: fatherhood.

Other dads featured in the film include skater Tony Hawk, Art Alexakis (Everclear), Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), Tony Adolescent (The Adolescents), Fat Mike (NOFX), Lars Frederiksen (Rancid), and many others.”

I grew up listening to the likes of Mark Hoppus’ ridiculously excellent jokes on stage livening up the live show’s atmosphere, and whilst I tended to go in a more upbeat direction than most of the guys featured in this film, my musical education includes the majority of the fathers in this great trailer, like Tim McIlrath, Flea, Tony Hawk (not a musician, but naturally still part of the scene, and what a pro), Fat Mike, and Jim Lindberg.

Even if punk-rock’s not really quite your cup of tea, it should definitely still make for a really interesting film. The film premiered at SXSW earlier this year and was terrifically received, and it’s now something I’m really looking forward to seeing. The States will be lucky enough to get this in cinemas on 2nd November, but we’ll probably have to wait until its DVD release to see it here. Either way, it should be great.

Without further ado, here’s the great new trailer to enjoy, set to the incredibly appropriate Against Me! song, I Was A Teenage Anarchist.

(P.S. This is probably one of the only times I’ll get to put Mark Hoppus’ face at the top of the page. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as me.)
