It’s tough getting used to Russell Brand sans beard, every picture seemingly showing a top hatted Freddie Mercury strutting around New York.

And while we’ve seen a few pics leak from the set of his remake of the Dudley Moore film Arthur the time came today for some official photos to appear.

Nothing huge, Brand still looks every bit the English eccentric abroad, with Helen Mirren, leaping into the trousers of John Geilgud for this one, also appears in the pictures released today. Talking to the NY Times, who published these pictures, Mirren gave her verdict on the original film,

I just didn’t think a film about a drunken small guy was remotely funny…The reality about alcoholics is that they’re boring and tedious, and I’d spent enough nights in pubs with drunken boys to know it was not something I’d ever want to be caught up in. And I particularly objected to the way women were depicted — which was something I felt about most movies I saw back then — as kind of slave-enablers.

The fact that she’s on board hopefully means this twenty first century makeover redresses the balance somewhat. Whatever happens, whether it’s with the borrowed charm of the Batmobile complete with a Batsuited Brand, or Doc Brown’s DeLorean, Brand will hope to make as big a smash as Dudley Moore did in 1981.

Here are the pics. And no Greta Gerwig? Not happy.
