Kirsten Dunst in On the RoadWalter Salles’ anticipated adaptation of On the Road arrives in UK theatres today, bringing to the big screen one of the most iconic and well-known novels of the last century.

Starring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart as the leading trio, the film has an impressive supporting cast alongside them, and now we have a new image to share of Kirsten Dunst, who plays Hedlund’s wife, Camille (based on the real-life Neal Cassady’s wife, Carolyn).

“After the death of his father, Sal Paradise, an aspiring New York writer, meets Dean Moriarty, a wild and infectiously charismatic ex-con. They hit it off immediately. Determined to avoid the pitfalls of a narrow, prescribed life, Sal hits the road, joining Dean on what evolves into a life-changing physical and emotional odyssey. Thirsting for freedom, they discover the world, the ecstasy of experience, the connectedness of humanity and ultimately themselves.”

Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, Alice Braga, Elisabeth Moss, and Viggo Mortensen complete the very promising cast nicely, with Salles directing from a script by the Oscar-nominated Jose Rivera, with whom the director worked previously on The Motorcycle Diaries.

On the Road will be released in UK theatres tomorrow, 12th October, before arriving in the US in the height of the awards season on 21st December. I can’t wait to see how the adaptation turns out. For now, here’s our new look at Dunst in the film, which you can click to enlarge.
