All we’ve seen from Rian Johnson’s Looper so far suggests it has the potential to be the best sci-fi/action film of the year.

Due out at the end of September, the film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis in the leads, and now Alliance Films have put out a great new image of Gordon-Levitt – whose prosthetic-enhanced look is so cool, made to look like a young version of Willis – as well as AICN giving us a great preview of the score by Nathan Johnson, the director’s cousin.

“In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.

The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.”

Johnson is directing from his own script, teaming up with Gordon-Levitt once more after their immense work on the director’s debut, Brick. The supporting cast for Johnson’s third feature is equally impressive, with Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels, Paul Dano, Piper Perabo, and Garrett Dillahunt starring alongside the leading duo.

Looper will be released in the UK and US on 28th September – definitely a date you’ll want to commit to memory. This is going to be so much fun, especially coming right off the back of Gordon-Levitt in Premium Rush (due out here on 14th September) – not to mention The Dark Knight Rises next Friday!
