Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained is one of the most anticipated films of the year, and also one of the last films to enter theatres in 2012, with a US release set for Christmas Day, perfectly priming it for the Oscar season to come in the months that follow.

We’ve been treated to plenty of brilliant things from the film already, most recently with a new international trailer landing earlier this week, and now a new image of Jamie Foxx as the eponymous Django has been released, giving us a great look at the titular character.

“Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award(R)-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award(R)-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles–dead or alive.”

Foxx leads an immense cast, and is joined by Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jonah Hill.

Django Unchained will be released in US theatres on 25th December, before heading to the UK on 18th January, 2013. Everything we’ve seen suggests it’s going to be one of Tarantino’s finest, and it’s release really can’t come fast enough. For now, here’s the great new image of Foxx in the lead, and as usual, you can click to enlarge.
