Life of Pi PosterAng Lee’s Life of Pi is on the cusp of release in the US, due out just in time for Thanksgiving next week. And having debuted at NYFF to very promising early reviews, that strengthen its position as an Oscar contender, things couldn’t be looking better for the film.

Earlier this week, we saw a great new TV spot for the film, and now Fox have released a new featurette, going behind the scenes to give us a great inside look at how the film was shot.

“Director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a tragic disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While marooned on a lifeboat, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with the ship’s only other survivor — a fearsome Bengal tiger.”

Newcomer Suraj Sharma takes the lead in the coming epic drama, promising a strong acting debut, supported by Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Rafe Spall, and Gérard Depardieu, with Lee directing from a script by Oscar-nominated David Magee (Finding Neverland), adapting the critically acclaimed and best-selling novel by Yann Martel.

Life of Pi will be released in 3D in the US on 21st November, in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, followed by a release here in the UK on 20th December, just in time for Christmas. I can’t wait. This looks remarkable.
