Netflix has officially commissioned a second season of its gripping crime procedural ‘Dept. Q,’ adapted from Jussi Adler-Olsen’s bestselling novels.

Season 2 will once again be filmed and set in Edinburgh, following the success of the Scottish capital as the atmospheric backdrop for the first series.

Matthew Goode will reprise his role as DCI Carl Morck, leading his team of misfit detectives: Alexej Manvelov returns as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy. Together, they continue to head up the unconventional Department Q, working from the basement of an Edinburgh police station to investigate cases that have long been thought unsolvable.

The renewal comes on the heels of the show’s breakout success. ‘Dept. Q’ Season 1 held a place in Netflix’s Global Top Ten for six consecutive weeks, winning audiences over with its dark humour, shocking twists, and layered storytelling.

Goode expressed his excitement about continuing the series, saying:
“I’d like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate Department Q’s storylines. We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank. I cannot wait to read what comes from his magic quill!”

Written and directed by Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit, Godless), Dept. Q combines the addictive thrills of a crime procedural with an exploration of the detectives themselves, diving into their flaws, friendships, and fractured pasts as much as the cases they take on.

With a return to Edinburgh and the promise of more intricate mysteries, Season 2 looks set to deliver another round of suspense, humour, and hard-hitting drama for fans across the globe.
